CIDECT Industrial Desk Piece / Presentation Object, Silver Plate, Mid 20th Century

Brutalist Presntation Piece.

A rare and unusual CIDECT (Comité International pour l’Étude et le Développement de la Construction Tubulaire) desk piece or presentation object, dating to the mid 20th century.

Constructed in silver plate and formed from stylised sections of industrial pipe, the piece reflects the organisation’s focus on tubular steel construction. The sculptural, almost architectural form gives it a strong industrial aesthetic, very much in keeping with mid-century modern design principles.

The upper section is engraved “CIDECT” and “Premier Président et Fondateur”, with further engraved text running around the circular element. The outer edge of the base is hand-engraved with multiple signatures, presumably members or contributors to the organisation, adding a unique historical and commemorative element.

The piece is presented in its original fitted wooden box, lined in red fabric, and retains a printed list of signatures inside the lid corresponding to those engraved on the object.

A highly unusual and decorative object, appealing to collectors of industrial design, engineering history, or architectural desk pieces.

Condition:

In fair vintage condition. There is visible wear to the silver plating, particularly to the internal base where areas of plate loss and darkening are present. The outer surfaces show light surface wear and scratching consistent with age. The wooden presentation box is worn, with marks and handling wear, but remains structurally sound.
