Art Deco Dressing Chest in Satin Birch by Alister Maynard and Betty Joel Circa 1938 SOLD

A fine quality hand-made Art Deco dressing chest in satin birch and  sycamore,having a thick plate-glass top supported over an open shelf, centered below with six drawers, flanked on either side by corner cupboards each enclosing six mahogany open drawers, on a plinth base , silver plated bronze handles. Stamped with cabinet makers mark and dated 21/10/38.

An exceptional piece of workmanship with perfect proportions, excellent choice of woods , hand-made bronze handles, there has been no expense spared in the crafting of this cabinet.

The design  by Alister Maynard who established himself as a designer of modern luxury furniture and furnishing, opening his showroom in 1935 at 73 Grosvenor Street, London, W1. From 1935 until the outbreak of war in 1939 he received many important commissions from Indian princes and English patrons including the Courtaulds, Derek Peachey and Sir Edward Hulton. His furniture in the Thirties was made by Betty Joel Ltd

Although a dressing chest I think this piece could be used in many rooms . Would look great in a hall , living room , or office.
